Five daysof summeron stage

Five disciplines and a single rule: get on stage and leave nothing behind. Rap, singing, dance, Foot2Rue SS, Basket SS. The room reacts, the public votes, the jury decides.

The project

Why this show exists

A Summer Show dance crew, shot in studio.

Douala is not short of talent. It is short of stages. Every year, dancers, rappers, singers and whole teams work in borrowed halls and courtyards without ever meeting an audience beyond their own neighbourhood.

THE SUMMER SHOW exists for exactly that reason: to put all of them in one place, for five days, in front of people. A floor to exhibit on, a stage to perform on, courts to play on.

Good reasons

What you are coming for

Four things the season does better than a single night out, and why they are worth five days.

  • A real stage

Sound, lights, a jury and an audience, at the Majestic Cinéma. Not a courtyard with a speaker on the floor.

  • People to meet

An eleven month season and five days in one place. That is the time it takes for crews to actually cross paths.

  • Somewhere to show

Labels, studios, schools and clubs hold stands in the middle of the crowd, not in a side room.

  • Prizes to win

850 000 FCFA of prize money, split across the five disciplines and announced before entries open.

Questions

The ones that keep coming up

Everything worth knowing before taking a pass or entering.

What is it, exactly?

An eleven month season that ends in five days of fair in Douala. Three stage concours (rap, singing, dance) run from February's casting to July's finals; the two tournaments (Foot2Rue SS and Basket SS) are played in June, a day each, final included. All the while the candidates' journey is filmed and posted.

Does one ticket cover all five days?

No, and this is the question that comes up most. The four days of fair and day five's Grand Final are two separate ticketings. The 5 000 FCFA 4 Day Pass covers the whole fair; the Grand Final is bought separately, from 5 000 FCFA in Standard.

What is the difference between the Day and Evening tickets?

The hour. The Day Ticket runs 11:00 to 17:59, for the fair, the stands and the afternoon sets. The Evening Ticket runs 18:00 until close, for the concerts and the competition rounds. The Full Day Pass covers both, for the price of the Evening Ticket alone.

Why does my ticket come in two versions?

Because one is made to be posted and the other to get you in. The shareable version carries no code, so it is safe to put in a story. The access version carries your code, it works exactly once, and whoever scans it before you gets in instead of you.

How do I enter to perform?

Through the Compete page. For rap, singing and dance, settle the 2 000 FCFA casting fee per person and you get a call sheet to bring on casting day in February 2027, along with photo identification. If you are selected, a further 5 000 FCFA per person is due to join the season. For Foot2Rue SS and Basket SS, entry is per team, 30 000 FCFA and 25 000 FCFA respectively.

What happens if I am kept at the casting?

One hundred and fifty candidates are expected at the casting, fifty per category, and thirty are selected. Those selected pay a further 5 000 FCFA per person, then from March to June you are followed and filmed: excerpts, cyphers, clashes, your own story, at three videos a week. Then you play for your place on stage during the fair, or go straight to the final if the online vote sends you there.

Is the casting fee refunded if I am not kept?

No. The 2 000 FCFA covers running the casting itself, whatever the outcome. The 5 000 FCFA is only due if you are selected.

How does the online vote work?

Voting opens in May, on this site. Each vote costs 100 FCFA and one person may vote as many times as they like for their candidate. The ranking is public and updates live, by category. The highest placed go straight to day five's final.

Who can take a stand?

Anything with something to show or to sell: streetwear labels, studios, dance schools, sports clubs, food, associations. The four formulas run from bare ground to a stand built and dressed for you, and the price covers the four days of the fair.

What is the Summer Care Day?

The event's charitable side, on day five. Orphanages, care homes and families in difficulty are invited: a meal for the children, activities, games, gifts, and time spent with the artists and the candidates. An online fund is open all season for anyone who wants to contribute.

How do I pay?

Online, by mobile money or bank card, or at the door. Paying at the door leaves your ticket as a reservation until you have been through the desk.

Where is it?

At the Majestic Cinéma in Douala, in July 2027. The exact five dates will be announced here and on our channels.
